Regarding the automatic updates on Windows Defender: if I set them for, say 22.00, does my computer have to be switched on at that time for them to download?

it should get them the next time you connect to the 'net

Hello mate and thanks for a prompt response. Bit confused, if it updates next time I connect, what exactly are they asking me to stipulate a time for? wouldn't any time do if it updates as soon as I re-connect?

I assume it at least gives you an idea when your updates will be fetched, even if you're online all the time - it's no good them setting the software up to check for updates every hour for example, they'd overwhelm their own servers with update checks.

No worries. "Computers don't do what you want them to do, they do what you tell them to do"
