Hi Has anyone downloading Windows XP critical updates today found that upon restarting computer that windows would load up to desktop, but have nothing on desktop at all and only way to get working was to restore windows to an earlier day and everything is then OK.

I assume its one of the updates but which one there were many.

No problems here ( XP & Vista) downloaded and installed 8 updates.

Installed these on Wednesday on an XP PC and an XP laptop without problem.

However, an a Vista laptop, after installing and re-booting it decided that it couldn't load my usual profile and desktop and proceeded to load a 'temprary' profile and desktop.

I found that after cursing the laptop, swearing mightily at MS and it bleep, bleep, bleep ridiculous Vista operating system, followed by a further re-boot of the laptop, all was OK.

On a vista home premium laptop, fell over as the desktop launched, the welcome sound became a long tringing which ended with the BSOD. Reboot and fine ever since.

Nine updates on XP sp3, on automatic and came through yesterday.

The MSRT run took longer than usual, I thought, but I could easily be wrong about that.

No problems at all, so far, anyway.
