Windows Crash/ Rendering Error

Heya guys and gals.
I have HP pavillion zv5000 laptop.
It is in good shape (NAV 2006, Firewall on, Defragmented often). However, recently, I have been getting a rather strange problem i have never seen before.
After an hour or so of use, Windows stops rendering images and text properly. What i mean by this is that images just become a black silhouette, text disappears from anywhere (dialog boxes, webpages, word documents) and and text that is still rendered ends up in an old system font, similar to windows 3.5
I was obviously thinking it would be a graphics card problem. But it is a laptop and so has on-board graphics.
If anyone has any advice on what may be at fault, all suggestions will be appreciated.

Callum

I don't know much about laptops, but it sounds like an overheating problem to me. Maybe as you said on your built in graphics card, maybe if laptops have built in fans for cooling the system maybe that's one of the things that you could look into.
