Windows boot up problem

  Mark-293923 22:51 11 Mar 2005

Hi, I'm having a problem starting my Windows Me. PC. It goes through the setup up as normal, up to the point when the Millennium logo appears then it stops on C:\ windows\wininit.exe. With a line of different characters underneath. I've tried from a floppy startup disk and from safe mode, but no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks Mark

Use the start up floppy to boot to command prompt with cd support(this will be drive D:) and reinstall windows ME from the cd(enter setup.exe & press enter)....TT

Any other Ideas? apart from a new CD Drive!

Thanks anyway for the reply.

Press F8 at bootup and choose "last known good configuration"

Am I right in saying your cd drive is broke or the floppy startup disk doesn't work?

wininit.exe is a trojan.

when the computer stops if you hit enter does it then continue to boot as normal?

if so and you have a spyware removal program installed then what has probably happened is that the spyware has quarantined the wininit file but has left other reference to this file on your computer.

for information on how to remove this trojan

CD Drive doesn't appear to work, but the floppy is ok, as I can boot to the command prompt.

I've pressed F8 AND i've got a choice of 6 options
2.Logged (\bootlog.txt)
3.Safe Mode.
4.step by step confirmation
5.Command prompt only
6.Safe mode command prompt only.

Get to command prompt and enter C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
