i have a computer running 98se but a friend of mine is willing to give me his windows 2000 pro disc. What, if any benefit would i have in using 2000 over 98, bear in mind im a home user and only really use the computer for the internet.

2000 may or may not operate with your hardware and driver updates will probably be required, check on Microsoft website, 98 will not always be supported 2000 has just had an extention to its MS support (to 2005 I believe) 2000 is Very Stable and a joy once set up but will not play all older games, why not create a dual boot and run both, play with 2000 while still running 98 and also ensure you can access this forum (this is what I did) install 2000 in fat 32 so both drives will be able to see each other once you are happy that you can handle it reinstall 2000 on ntfs ( stabler but again watch game and hardware compatability)

If it aint broke don't fix it!!

Technically win 2000 is an office based operating system.

Also bear in mind that using someone else's disk is breaking the law.

Surley if his friend gives him the original disk with the certificate then that is fine isnt it? As long as it is not copied then i dont see the problem. Correct me if im wrong!

If I have win2000 on my computer and then lend you my original disks to put win 2000 on your computer, is that OK?
