Windows 98 Updates.

  bazza2 09:32 06 Jan 2004

Just before Christmas I read a thread stating that Microsoft were removing Windows 98 updates from their site.

Unfortunately I cannot find the thread, but seem to remember that it contained a link to a site which had all the Win 98 updates on it.

Can anyone remember the site, as I was wondering whether it was worth getting a copy of all the updates that I currently have installed, incase I need them in the future.

I shall try the method mentioned on the Fred Langa website, and get them down to CD, if their not too big.

One question though, if I were to re-install Windows 98 se, sometime in the future, how do I get my windows updates, which I have saved to a CD, onto my freshly installed operating system?
(Or am I just being a bit thick??)

Each one is stored as an executable package. Just copy them to a temp folder on the PC and double click each one to install. You might need to reboot between each one.

Can't you just double-click on the package that is on the CD, and install it from there?

(It's a shame that there isn't an option in Windows Update to point to the CD rather than the Microsoft web site!)

MS have said the Updates will be in the Update Catalog until 2006 at least so you've plenty of time to get them - the basic lot is less than 40mb.

You can but i just prefer to install from the HDD...
