Windows 98 and CCleaner

Are these going to work together?

A friend is wanting to clean up an old system and is reluctant to upgrade at the moment.

He may then make the huge leap into Windows 7

His 98 still does the job for him so he is not in a rush to jump in yet.

what kind of 'clean -up' are we talking about ?
Suggest he does maybe not need to get so drastic as to use a registry cleaner but maybe see what |IS on there and trim back a bit? What antivirus program is on there?
