Had a spare hard drive and an old W95 CD and W95 install floppy can only install running Fat16 unable to install running Fat32 so i assume you can only use Fat16 is this true?.
After install W95 slpash screen appears starting windows95 for the first time then dies with a windows protecion fault
What would cause this?? but will run in safe mode
but this is no use for loading drivers.

If I remember correctly Win 95 was Fat16 and Fat32 came out with Win 98. Don't know about your other problem.

Wndows 95B brought in FAT32 if you do not have it you must have the first release of Windows 95

Can you convert the drive to FAT32 from within windows95. try going into DOS and enter convert....TT

500 RAM,no i did not convert as i can only run in safe mode as all i get as i said is a windows protection fault not unknown to W95 i believe.

The original 95 was Fat16 with a limit of 2Gb Partition size but the later Win95b and C you could convert to Fat32 or Do it with the Floppy disc when fdisking the drive

PS it may work if you use a Win98se OEM floppy disc and Fdisk to Partition your drive. click here Put a floppy disc in drive and double click the download
