Windows 7 Pro problems with update & troubleshooter

I'm still getting problems with my Dell T5500 despite running Regcure & similar Automatic update refuses to work despite deleting & reinstalling as suggested on Microsoft site & Troubleshooters won't run. I need to update as SP1 is not installed I don't know if these functions were deliberately killed by the IT dept of the original owners but it resists all attempts to make them work. Regcure blindly states there are no problems - I've still got the Cryptographic services failing to initialise the catalog database. ESENT error 583. Machine did not come with a disk or a repair partition. I do have a windows 7 Pro OEM disk but it is for my other machine - could I use as a repair disk or will it cause problems. I'm tempted to get a new disk & reinstall win 7 Ultimate or what? - losing the will to live!!

Use Regcure to reinstate the first backup it made. Reboot and try Windows update again.

What 'similar' software do you use?
