Before I give in and do a fresh install, anyone any suggestions - I have:
Tried a repair using DVD - same.
Tried a Clean Boot - same.
Tried System Restore - same.
Run the bootrec commands from CMD - same.
Run AV, MBAM, ComboFix etc - same.
The owners say this 'just happened' - no new software etc involved.
P.S. Just started the DVD again to run chkdsk from the CMD in Advanced Options (won't do it for some reason when I program it from safe mode).
Have you tried booting to safe mode and running the start up repair?Maybe go to msconfig and untick everything in case there's some software conflicts?
Last known good configuration?
If ok in safe mode then usually a driver causing the problem.
start by uninstalling graphics driver and reboot to normal mode if OK let windows install new driver.
Thanks - hiwatt - done that. Jock1e - done that. FB - will try that when chkdsk has finished. Off out for an early doors pint or two (well deserved). Will check-in on return.
Well, after chkdsk, wouldn't boot in safe mode. As all the data had been saved , I went for a restore to factory, and all up and running again now.
