Windows 7 install error

Apologies if this has been asked before but i did have a look at previous threads and couldnt see it.

Basically, I tryed to install Windows 7 (32 bit) today which I bought ligitimately from Amazon. I choose to reformat and the process got to about 70% and then i got this message:

"the file or directory /Windows.winsxs is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.

Error code 0x80070570

Ive looked on other forums and this seems to be a common error for those who have burnt to a dvd but i have not as i have a physical copy

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks in advance, James

sounds like the install found bad clusters on the hdd, how old is the hdd, did you run chkdsk to repair?

yeh im thinkin the hdd as well, its the only part of my comp that i havnt changed since building it about 3 years ago.

I havnt run chkdsk yet because a.) I didnt think it would do much and b.) i wanted to check the forums first

I'll run chkdsk sometime tonight and if that doesnt help i may have to bite the bullet and get a new hdd :( more money....
