Windows 7 on Dell Mini 9

I have a Dell Inspiron 910 (Mini 9) provided "free" with 2yr Vodafone contract a year ago. It has 8GB SSD and 2GB memory. I have all my data on a separate 8GB SD Card. The machine has Windows XP and Vodafone Mobile Connect. However, I do now want to upgrade XP to Windows 7 as I hear that it works well on netbooks and has a smaller footprint. Before I install Win7 (you can only hard install Win 7 if the current OS is XP), I want to make sure I can set up the VMC software and any associated drivers post install.
Also, is 8GD SSD OK for Windows 7? It runs XP perfectly OK.

You'll need a larger capacity hard drive for Win7. This article recommends at least 40Gb click here.

I've successfully installed Win7 & running it on a 20Gb drive (desktop), but 40Gb is ideally needed. Performance starts to suffer when a drive is filled to 50% of its capacity & above.

Also, please note that some companies' warranties are voided if a different OS, to the one that it originally came with, is installed. G
