My Dell Dimension has windows XP, would I be better off keeping this or putting in WIndows 7. If Windows 7 would be better would I have to buy a Dell edition (prefer not to as cost fortune prob)

Thanks
Sue

From click here it states the maximum RAM you can install in your machine is 1GB.

This is the minimum that you need to run W7 but in reality 2GB is needed. click here and run the Upgrade Advisor to get a better idea.

I wouldn't run Win7 on a single-core CPU & 1Gb of RAM. As bremner says, you need a minimum of 2Gb.

And no, you don't need to buy a Dell version of Win7. Any edition you can buy elsewhere will do. Just try to get the full Retail version (as against OEM or upgrade), so you can transfer the license to your next PC (if & when it came to that) without any problems. G
