My sons computer has a good copy of XP Pro and also a partly installed copy of XP Home. Is there any way I could eliminate the XP Home as it seems to cause some problems?

I don't understand your email. All I did was to bump your thread back upwards to save it from disappearing. The method given by VoG™ should do the trick for you.
