Windows will not start. Switch on the computer and windows tries to load. Something flashes on the screen but too fast to read! Screen then gives you the options of going into SAFE MODE etc.
select safe made press reurn and the startup sequence starts again and ends back at the SAFE Mode screen.

Any ideas

On bootup of system keep pressing F8 till you get to the list including safemode. But this time use the up/down keyboard arrows and select, startup with last know good configuration etc.

See if that helps to get into windows proper.

The problem is that safe mode will not run. Continually pressing F8 brings me back to the screen with the multi choices e.g.safe mode, network etc. Which ever option one tries simply brings one back to the options screen. I have considered re-installing but the original windows XP disc is not available.

Someone else on another website has similar problem
but it seems the suggested remedy is a re-install.

Not very practicable, however, if you do not have the XP disc available.
