The new drive didnt have a small partition (fat32) and a large partition (ntfs) did it?
If so, you should remove all partitions, recreate and format as fat32 as win98 wont see ntfs format which is used by xp etc.

You may be able to get software from Drive Site, So you can use the Full Size. It is Disc Overlay Software. Easy Setup software. If it's a Maxtor, it's Maxblast, Seagate does one also

that Win98 can't see a partition bigger than 32 Gig. If I'm correct the drive will have to be partitioned to see all of it.

As usual, I'm open to correction!

I have two PCs running Win 98SE and both of them have 2 120gb hard drives fitted. All four are Maxtor drives and I used Maxblast to set them up, which overcomes the Win 98SE 32gb limit.

What size hard drive was the original, if it was below 8gb you could also find that the Motherboard has a limit of 8gb.
