Win7 and virus scans problems

  Demora 16:29 22 Jan 2011

Yesterday I decided to run a virus scan and part way through the pc shut down. (Bullguard).

So uninstalled Bullguard and d/loaded Comodo Internet Security. Same problem. Uninstalled that and went with MS Security...same again.

Then I ran 'Housecall' Trend Micros online virus scan. All fine. (no virus)

But why can't I run an offline checker?

System is home Build Quad 6600 Ausu M/board and 3 gigs RAM etc.

The event viewer said something about a Kernal power disruption BUT in all the cases when the virus scanner shut the pc down. I have 700watt PSU

Any pointers to help solve the mystery.

Check your CPU's temperature during a scan.
Speedfan is good; have a read here and there is a download link, click here
It might be CPU heat problem.

Thank you rdave13. Checked with that programme and I wish it had been that temprature outside today. 91c. Hmmmm. Off came the side panel and out came the hoover. and little attachments and a tiny brush.

Now running at 34c And the virus scan worked all the way too:

Must have created a lot of dust these past 6months since fitting the new psu.

Thanks again

Glad you're sorted. As with everything with Windows it shows why it shut down, i.e. power disruption. The cause for the power disruption was CPU overheating so event viewer is not very accurate as to the original cause.
I always have my desktop on top of the desk rather than the ridiculous position near the floor. Less dust.
