Win2000 Hangs at "Applying Security Settings"

  Stuart_Yates_03 11:25 30 Jul 2004

Unfortunately my Windows 2k system hangs at "Applying Security Settings". I have managed to load it up in Safe Mode and everything is very very slow. I'm not sure what the problem is because I tried reinstalling windows over the top of my existing installation, however this installed a separate windows installation. This works fine but has none of my software.

Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be a virus?

Thanks in advance

May be a corrupt driver. Not sure if this works in 2k but worth a try.

while in safe mode 2k CD in drive (not req if preloadedon HDD)

type sfc /scannow in run box click ok

will scan for and replace missing / corrupt system files.

If this does not solve problem try uninstalling all device drivers and reboot. Reload drivers when booted ok
