Win XP Pro does not have Hibernate function

  jack 12:40 02 Sep 2009

I was extolling the virtues of the 'Hibernate' function to one of my flock over the telephone- to which he responded-'I don't have that'
When I next visited his home I tried to demonstrate the function- hover over standby-depress right shift- and sure enough nothing happened.
I have come across the Standby/Shutdown/Restart
panel in 2 other formats - one as described and as on my machine currently as a scroll down panel with all the options -shutdown restart standby and hibernate.
So the question without a WindowsXP disk for this particular machine- is there anyway to get the 'Hibernate' option to manifest itself?

Go into command prompt and type:

powercfg -h on

Press enter

Thankyou - that was prompt - and having passed it on- he did it and Presto!
He didn't even reboot.
