Win XP Compatability problems

  denchris 15:52 15 Jun 2003

Having recently bought an AMD athlon 2500 xp m/c
bare system, I then loaded my Win 98se os and found some instability problems ie sudden shutdowns. so I loaded Win XP upgrade to solve this but I found XP would not recognise my 10/100 ethernet adapter, I tried upgrading drivers of course but to no avail, I`ve had to uninstall Win XP in order to make this contact.
Any one help ? ?

I would suggest that you format and partition the hdd and then install WinXP straight away without first installing win98.

When installed, have a look in the device manager; there may be a "PCI simple communications device" needing drivers - that will be your network card.

As often happens you have to be told to bite the bullet. I did as u suggested and installation went smoothly, the mobo disc loaded all.

thanks for the the push.....
