win me shutdown

Can anyone advise,i have just formatted a friends pc and reinstalled Windows ME for him, all is fine except when closing down i have to manually shut down the pc by pressing the button when the message "it's now safe to turn off your computer" this didn't happen before,does any one know the solution to this.

in XP you'd enable 'APM' in power options,but that doesnt seem to apply to winME,worth a look though.

from windowsME help;

"When you shut down Windows, your computer might automatically turn off before you receive the message that says it's safe to turn off your computer.

This behavior is a power management feature. It occurs only on computers with a Plug and Play BIOS that supports either power management features or Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)."
