hi all
i would like to install a password on my comp
at startup to stop anyone else from gaining access to my computer( win 98se)

It will have to be a BIOS password; Win98 passwords can be bypassed by presing the escape key.

When starting the PC, you should see a message like "press del to enter setup" and within the BIOS you will have an option to set a password. But don't forget it - they are hard to bypass.

There was a piece in last months PCA mag about this and heres what it said :

Select start shut down/restart in MSDOS mode.
At the C:\Windows prompt,type ren win.com xyz.com
then press enter.
Now when your pc is turned on all they will get is an error message at the C:\ prompt thinking the pc is broke,you can log in by typing xyz and pressing enter.To reverse this restart in MSDOS mode again and type ren xyz.com win.com press enter and reboot.
