Win 98 SE - Windows Registry Checker Problem

  Tony_B 22:47 15 Sep 2004

When starting up the computer Windows Regisrty Checker Runs. It comes up with an error message:-

Windows encountered an error accessing the system.
Windows will restart & repair the system for you.

This process doesn't stop, it shuts down and restarts the computer but the same error message comes up over and over again.

The only way to prevent this is to Cntrl Alt Delete and end the Registry Checker Task from the list.

Can anyone explain whats going on and how do I prevent or fix this problem. Your help will be greatly appreciated

Not sure what's causing it, but you could try the registry cleaner options on TuneUp Utilities 2004 (30 day free trial) click here

Two suggestions that might help:

1. Run System File Checker (Start>run type SFC in the box) and have your Win98 disk handy to restore any damaged system files.

2. Run MSConfig from the Start>run box as above and have a look at the startup items and untick as necessary.
