Win 98 se shut down problems

Hi!
I have just reinstalled Win 98se to a machine which is something I have done quite a few times in the past.However,on this occasion I cannot get it to shut down. All that happens is the Windows splash appears informing me that the computer is shutting down,and thats it.
I tried the help files and drawn a blank.
Is there anyone out there who can help.

Run SFC that should cure it.

?how many times has it happened....every time. or inermittent?
happens to ME occasionally too....
