Win 98

It seems that my win 98 CD is damaged, as some files can’t be copied.

I recently formatted my hard disk and I tried to re-install win 98 SE. The set-up installation was aborted, as some file couldn’t be copied.

Is there a way of getting the win installation cd without purchasing a second hand copy or upgrading to XP.

My PC is a Dell P3 600 and the O/S came with the PC. I also have a NEC Athlon 1200 PC running win 98 but it wont install on my dell PC.

If I purchased XP it would slow down the performance of my PC

What can I do to resolve this problem.

While xp will run ok on your PC, Win98 is much better suited to it. Do you have a friend from whom you can borrow a CD and use your own regstration number?

If there is no physical damage obvious on the CD, you may need just to partition the hard drive. Have a read here click here

Every one I know uses XP. Would ypu know if I can download a copy of Win 98SE from MS Help?

No, you cannot. Dell may be able to help.

You can't load Windows without a CD. Look on Ebay

or try a local computer shop, if they have one, expect to pay around £10.
