Win 2000 dont see USB

  naineysman 22:06 23 Feb 2007

Trying to plug in a USB thumb drive into a works machine that runs Win 2000 Pro, SP2.

Does not see USB drive fully, looks for the driver (which is on the thumb drive) It recognises new hardware and runs the wizard but we cant get the driver in. Anything 'obvious' to check?

I could use CD rom for the driver but many people access the machine, all with their own unique drive.??

any ideas?

It may need a later SP than version 2?

I don't think you can have the driver on a device you're trying to install. How would it know to load the driver unless the device is recognised?

Yes I agree about the driver re the cd rom idea.

Can I get later SP on CD rom anywhere as this pc is not allowed on the net.
