wifi signal strength

Hi - I have a wifi home network which to be honest isn't great. I can only use it in a couple of rooms in the house and the rest are out of range on my router.

However, I've noticed that I can detect signals from other networks where the transmitter must be a some way off.

This got me thinking that my Thomson Speedtouch 570 must be on the weak side, and whether I can buy industrial strength routers which would cover my house, preferably without frying the cat!

Does this make sense? Any recommendations?

Thanks for any advice.
