In todays Daily Mail there is an article about Wi-Fi security or the lackof it. How do I ensure that I am protected from hackers and can anyone recommend any software if needed.

My specs are Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz, Windows XP Home, 512Mb RAM, 1Mb Cache. Linksys broadband router and assorted Linksys senders and receivers. 802.11b.

(1) In wireless router (access point) set up: change wireless network's SSID to something not easily figured and disable broadcaste SSID

(2) In wireless router (access point) set up: turn on MAC address filtering t only allow your laptop/desktop's mac address. If you do not do this, anyone in the range can get access router

(3) turn on WEP in both router and client

you do not need anything else unless some net tech guru out there determined to get you, in that case better not to use net

TomJerry is spot on. Just make sure you use the same WEP encryption key at both ends or you'll be royally stuffed.

Thanks TomJerry you've put my mind at rest.
