Wi-Fi connection Do I need Ethernet?

  premier man 15:37 22 May 2009

I have a BT Homehub Option2
and I want to go Wi- Fi so that we can use a
laptop elsewhere in the house.
My PC havent got an Ethernet connection,
I am on B/B via a USB connection,am I correct in thinking that if I get a Wireless Adapter that will solve it,or do I need an Ethernet connection?
also will the laptop need an Adapter?

It is advisable to connect your wireless router by ethernet cable to your laptop or PC when you first set up your wireless network. Once the router has been installed you can then connect wirelessly with any PC/laptop in the network

Thanks,So you reckon I need an Ethernet Card instead of a Wireless Adapter?

BT supplied the Ethernet cable with the Hub

If the laptop has an ethernet port you can use that to set up the Router.

Once it is set up correctly you can connect wirelessly with both your pc and laptop.

It really depends on where you wish to situate your Hub.

If it is going to be close to the PC you may as well get an ethernet card and use it that way.

Your laptop will still be able to connect wirelessly.

The Hub is next to the PC,Connected by USB at the moment.
So all I need is a Ethernet Card,is that so?
Sorry to be a pain.

Sorry I didn't understand.

You are already connected to the hub therefore you shouldn't need any other hardware.

You just need to configure the security and copy the settings to the laptop.

Thanks very much,and your patience

If you want to use wireless on the laptop then you will need a wireless adapter card on the laptop, this will allow what you need and enable you to use the laptop all over the house.
