Wi-fi browser problem

When using my laptop in a hotspot, the little monitor symbol and the control panel network icon tells me I am connected but I get no further. If I launch my own browser (which is a dial-up for home use) it tries to dial out and of course, gets nowhere. How do I access a browser to be able to use the w--fi facility?

Assuming you are using IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections and check 'Dial whenever a network connection is not available'

It needs to be set to "Never dial..."
