Why wont my dvd discs run

Hi can someone help me when I put my dvd films in the drive inter video dvd programme appears on the screen and starts to play and then the machine freezes and I have to cotrl alt del to reset the machine.
I am using win 98se thanks in advance

The reason is probably a DMA (Direct Memory Access) or port conflict. To resolve click start , help , contents tab , select troubleshooting , Windows 98 troubleshooters , hardware conflict , follow the on screen prompts to find and resolve any conflicts you've got . If you do have a conflict you need to change the DMA or port assignment for one of the conflicted devices.
