Why only .bmp

  Steve Mat 21:22 23 Sep 2003

I recently tried to download a jpeg photo from the web but the 'save as' box came up with only the .bmp extension option.

I have previously downloaded jpegs as jpegs and I have tried downloading photos from my own website that I know are definately jpegs but still only the .bmp option. I have tried photos from random sites but still the same.

Any ideas? Has this been caused by an update?

Clear your Temporary Internet Files folder from IE > Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Delete Files button, that should restore the ability to save as jpg.

Thanks. That cleared it. Do you know why? after all, .bmp are usually larger size files than .jpg.

Must keep up with the house keeping in future.

Thanks again

It's a bug in Windows, Steve Mat, it happens when the cache gets full. A good way to get round it happening again is to go to IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section and tick the box which says "Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when browser is closed".
