Why does XP want to make a copy of Word doc....?

Each time I open up a word doc that came as an attachment in an email, XP tell me it's being used by (me) and asks if I want to make a copy.

Why is this and how can I get rid of this message? It's getting a bit annoying!

Thanks for your advice.

Please can you post the exact "error" message?

E:\....\B88AYGQW\Rota.doc is being used by 'username'. Do you want to make a copy?

Then you have 2 options: OK or Cancel.

Can't you just save this attachment - as you seem to use it often - to somewhere on your hard drive and access it from there. If you do it this way you prbably won't get this problem.

Eagie, this is not a doc I use often. It's the first time I have opened it as it arrived in my Inbox.

I assume there is a switch somewhere that turns this message off? Anyone know where and how?

Thanks.
