Why default needed on e-mail?

Due to the recent troubles that Windows Live Mail has had in the past few days, although they say they have fixed it, I downloaded and set up Thunderbird.

I can now get my e-mail on both.
Is there any reason I should choose a default, I prefer the layout and appearance of W Live Mail but have TBird just in case.

Is there anything that could cause a problem?

A Default email program is needed if you ever choose to use 'Send to' to send pics etc via email when choosing the pics from your My Pictures folder.

Another time default program is used, is when replying to something on-line in a website.

I can't think of any possible problems.

I had not thought of the "Send" aspect, I must work out which suits my photo programs bettter, probably Windows.

I only did it because of the fault on WLMail, it caused a hell of a lot of complaints, I saw over 400 blogs on their helpline site about lost messages in one day.
