Why are folder names blue?

I'm using a friend's laptop at present (XP SP2 Home). When I run a Search in Windows explorer, I get quite a few folder names that come up printed onscreen in blue, instead of black.

Please can you explain what this means?

... his Windows folder has loads of blue folders called things like $NTUninstallxxxxxxx (where the x's are a series of alphanumerics).

Do you know where these have come from and whether they should be there?

They are the uninstall files for Windows Updates.

They can be removed click here

Many thanks again, VoG.
