Whistle removal

  kinger 19:57 29 Oct 2005

My neighbour has been infected on their PC by a virus which seems to call itself Whistler.

When I start up in safe mode (Win XP) it fails with a blue screen and simply tries to reboot over and over.

Is there any way that I can remove the virus if I can't get into, even, safe mode.

Apparently, the young person using the PC tried to update a game but it was a virus in disguise.

AVG said he needed to reboot to enable it to remove the virus, but only it didn't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whistler is another name for XP.

According to Sophos, Whistler is a virus and reading about it and what it does is quite terrifying.

Thanks Spuds, you got the same result as me.

I will now attempt removal (again). Poor children keep getting conned into downloading and launching updates which are false and contain a virus.

They've been told.
