im about to buy a computer from cougar extreme and i have the option of intel core 2 duo E6850 (3.0Ghz) or the intel core 2 quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz). i want this computer i am getting to last me at least a couple of years on highish settings

(4gb ddr2 800ram,2 x nvidia 8800 gts 640mb, asus crossfire motherboard)

if you could help me on the processor it would be much appriciated

6850 - the 6600 may be more `future-proof` but if nobody bothers to write code specifically for quad core chips you won't see much gain over the dual core. I wouldn't bother with a quad unless you do a lot of video editing/encoding, then the extra power will show. This might help; click here

thanks m8 will stay with duo core + the motherboard allows me to upgrade if i need to in the future

see if they will do this instead of gts version seems much better according to review and possibly cheaper
