when fitting PCI card like Modems, Soundcards, TV Tuners etc is there a correct slot or wrong slot to fit a PCI card in ?

Looking in my motherboard manual it releates to shared for IRQ etc but how do you know when a PCI card is going in the correct PCI slot ?

Only graphics cards fit in the PCI Express slot (usually a different colour.

As for the others you don't always know and if the card doesn't work then a swap to another slot may well solve the problem.

If you have more than one and spare spaces try to keep them apart (not always possible) to help air flow across them.

Sometimes the first slot near the Graphics, AGP or other can be a shared slot. So try other first

So what woodchip calls the first slot is furthest/opposite away from the agp slot, thanks Woodchip.

Do not use the one near the Graphis slot leave it untill it's the last avalable
