which dimms in which slot?

does it matter which memory modules go in which slot.i.e dimm slot 1 and dimm slot 2.
i have one 1024mb pc3200 ddr and one 512mb pc3200 ddr.

Shouldn't really matter. It used to be that the largest memory went in slot 1 but I don't think that applies now.

If you want to use dual channel however the modules would need to be matched pairs.

I always tend to put the biggest DIMM in the slot nearest the CPU. It probably doesn't matter either way, but it pleases my sense of neatness.

I always but the better optical drive at the top, and bigger hard drive at the top for the same reason.

I'm sure this is the way Hercule Poirot would build a PC.
