Which is the best

I have two Pentium CPU's available

1 Pentium D 3.0 Ghx

1 Pentium 4 3.66 Ghz

If fitted on the same motherboard and RAM etc which will give the best performance?

This is frankly hearsay and working from memory, but I seem to recall there there was a question mark over reliability of the P4 running at 3.66GHz.

On the face of it, this seems also to be a point made in click here see under "Overclocking".

Another point: We have a couple of P4 3.066GHz machines which we compared with a contact's P4 3.4GHz and, on most practical tasks, there was very little performance uplift, nothing more than +10%.

Obviously the linked report is dated but may assist. HTH.

" I have two Pentium CPU's available "

Thats going to depend on the motherboard itself.

Can you post the motherboard details please.

For example if a socket 478 motherboard, and depending on the chip it may run the 3.66GHZ but possibly not run the Pentium D

I have run both on the same Mboard, 3,66 Mghz P$ slightly faster than 3.0Ghz Pent D
