Where is my email program in Windows 7?

  belayer 16:13 30 Nov 2010

I bet this is a stupid question.

just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 and MS Office (home and Student). It doesn't seem to have Outlook or Outlook Express (which I prefer), or is it called something else?

There is a trial for Outlook which expires in a week or two, so that is no use. I am assuming a new laptop has an email program installed somewhere and that I don't have to buy one seperately.

There is not an in built email client in Windows 7. I think you need to install the Windows Essentials/Windows Live mail.

Yes, you should download Windows Live Mail, as suggested above.

You'll find that you can import all of your previous Outlook Express messages and contacts into WLM.

Great, thanks.

It wasn't a daft question after all!

To have to download WLM. Why on earth didn't they just include it as part of Windows as they did with OE.

I think Microsoft had to exclude it as part of that competition ruling by the EU the same as Internet Explorer.

Consumers could then choose whether to use an alternative.

Yes, I went for Outlook 2007 for example.
