Where does the memory go?

Win Xp/ 512mb ram.At present only connected to IE, system info summary tells me I have 209mb free. Would this seem reasonable, is there a easy way to show where it is being used.

Press Ctrl Alt Delete all at the same time and then select processes and that will tell you whats running

All the programs you load get to use Memory even when not running they allocated memory. Also stop programs running in the background when computer starts

That seems OK...My system is currently using 480Mb out of 1Gb.Xp systems like lots of RAM but 512Mb is fine.Don't worry about it,if your system is working without problem just get on with using it!lol

those useage figures seem quite high to me but I dont know what you were doing/running when they were taken, I am currently running XP with IE running as well as norton AV 2004 and I am using 133MB of memory,, the figures about the same on both my's and the laptop.. Maybe your running a load of stuff at startup that you dont need, this can be stopped and some services disabled to free up more memory but you got to ask i its gonna improve performance significantly if you start fiddling... .. .

Thanks all, I do seem to have a lot running in the background, some that I never realised and will disable.
