where did the gigabytes go?

my hard drive is telling me that i have 27.8 gbs of free space on a 55.8gb drive but when i highlight all the files on c. and click on properties it only gives a reading of 22.5 gb. where did the other 5 gb disappear to? i'm sure someone on this forum knows the answer, i'd sure like to know.

Two answers - first - go to view and the folder setting- ensure view hidden is selected
there may be a few you had not counted in.

Secondly it is the way the advert and printed material present mega bytes and gigabytes

In the printed/desriptive material the mega is presented as 1,000 and giga as 1,000,000

Inpractice in computery - Mega is 1024 etc.

So the actual count on the drive is less than the'presented' value

It is more than likely to be your system restore setting.

Control panel > system > system restore > highlight "C" > settings. How much, in Mbs is the setting?

If it is around 5Gb+ just use the slider to reduce it to around 1Gb.
