Where are XP built in drivers stored?

I'm trying to solve a printer installation problem click here

No printer drivers available in XP. A downloaded driver throws up 'Cannot find setupx.dll'.

Thought it worth, for the education of us all, to raise a seperate topic. Is the .dll file the significant clue here?

There's a lot of stuff in the drivers cab! If they are all missing, how can they be re-loaded?

[email protected]@m, just had a look at the on-line manual for the printer and it says it's a USB printer and needs the software from the CD installed prior to connecting to the PC.

If there is no CD even though it says XP has it's own drivers, but you can't find them, maybe a download of the win.2000 drivers will work. j.

EXTRACT it from the CD.

Start, Run, Type:

msconfig

Click OK.

Expand File

File to Restore: DRIVER.CAB

Restore from: X:\I386\DRIVER.CAB

Save File in: C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386

Expand
