when to switch on/off my router

  mec13 14:37 22 Oct 2006

Having just moved from dial-up to Broadband, I purchased a modem/router for the network system in our home. As a novice I notice there is an push button on/off switch on the router. My son says it's safe to leave on all the time, I notice also it does get quite warm when in use (I suppose this is normal)

Is it good practice to turn this router off, by this I mean every night. Or am I being a bit over cautious, my son just thinks his gaming sessions are more important, without having the fuss of switching on this router to continue his conquest of somewhere in cyberspace.

thanks postie24, I've waited a long time for my broadband. It took some setting up, but it's worth it.
