What are you trying to do and why?

looks as if you are trying to reset you computer to the factory settings.

looks as if your hard drive is corrupt.

I would check that the lead to the HD is not loose but it does sound like a knackered HD.

What make and model pc ?

Also try tapping F11 or F10 on startup.

Though i agree sounds like the hdd is dying or dead, you could try removing the drive and place in a caddy to try and retrieve some of the data...if the drive is readable.

Hi Guys - background to this problem, I tried earlier ... click here

But have to agree now, does sound like a very sick hard drive.
