How do I find out the processor speed on a Win98 system without lifting the cover?

  woodchip 20:48 18 Jan 2004

It may say if you right click on My Computer/Properties

Plus go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information

Thanks for your reply. That's where I get it on XP but on 98 all I get is

GenuineIntel Pentium(r) Processor Intel MMX(TM) Technology.

Any more ideas

Ditto with Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information.

I used to rely on a Macafee product which I don't have on this machine.

Any more thoughts?

Click `start` then `run` , type in dxdiag and click on ok , when the dx diagnostic tool comes up the info will be there on the first page.

Let the page fully load (little bar on the bottom left of the page) you will then see your proccessor make and model followed by a tilda ( ~ ) and the speed it runs at .

Belarc Advisor did the biz. Unfortunately dxdiag didn't seem to be available on 98. XP only?

thanx again.

No, not XP only, I got dxdiag on my 98 puter.

think it comes with directx8 and later installs

That would explain the lack of dxdiag. I doubt if this machine (neighbours) has ever been updated.
