Whats my hard drive

  Rossi#1 11:48 04 Apr 2006

I have a Compaq Presario SR1619UK from PC World with an AMD Athlon 64 3200 1GB RAM and 160GB hard drive. Im upgrading bit by bit being unemployed.
It is a SATA drive but if I want to add another doesnt it have to be the same make as well as size?
HP doesnt give the make, unless its their own.

An answer to your question is that in all probability the SATA drive you add can be any size you like. I would buy a 30-50Gb drive and make that your C drive and have the 160 as D drive, you could download a trial of acronis to make a clone of your present drive data and put that onto the new drive, then swap them over

Are you building a RAID array in any of the configurations that use bit-level or block-level striping?

I'm guessing that you're probably not going to use any kind of RAID, but just want some extra storage, so you can use whatever size and brand of hard-disk you like.

I have the Compaq 1639 and it uses 2 160gb SATA Samsung drives. But you can use any SATA drives from any manufacturers.

Yes I should have mentioned Im looking to building a RAID array (as well as upgrading elsewhere). Im sure I read somewhere the drives had to be the same size and make.
Its likely to be a Samsung then SG?

Open my computer, right click your hard drive choose properties.

Click the hardware tab. It should name all your drives there inc. the hdd.

What's it say?
