What's the best way to clear out a laptop?

  Picklefactory 10:04 15 Nov 2009

My partner has a new laptop and wants to sell her old one. I was about to start manually removing all of her data, but wondered if there was a quicker and easier way to do it? And also a safe way to do it to ensure I've not missed anything.

Any ideas folks?

First of all transfer all her data to her new laptop or an external drive. Then restore it to factory settings and reinstall MS Updates. This course of action should reformat the drive and remove all previous data.

Thanks. I'll give that a go later today.

After you've made sure that all her files have been deleted (by one means or another), you should "wipe" the unused space using a file wipe utility (there's plenty of free ones out there - just search for "file wipe" - I use Disk Redactor).

Thanks Batch, will do.
