During start-up with my Windows XP Home the following message appears. I'm curious to know what it's about. "Ultra DMA Mode 5 S.M.A.R.T. capable but disabled"
SMART click here is a utility that monitors the hard drive. You have it disabled. If you want to enable it go into the BIOS and there will be a setting to enable it.
...If you leave S.M.A.R.T. off, there is nothing monitoring the health of your HDD. With S.M.A.R.T. on, if there is imminent failure you will get a message telling you so. Switch it on from the BIOS.
